This ophthalmology practice first began in a 96 year old house in Rawson Street Epping in 1967 with Dr Marlene Strathdee. Four years later it changed premises in Rawson Street and also accommodated a private Orthoptic Pratice, with OPSM in the same building. With the introduction of another ophthalmologist, paediatrics became more of a focus for Dr Strathdee.
In 1983, the practice moved to its current location, 40 Essex Street Epping, and became known as “Epping Eye Surgery” (EES) in order to incorporate both the ophthalmic and orthoptic practices. Over time, a number of ophthalmologists have worked at Epping Eye Surgery and progressed on to open their own private clinics. In 2005, after working at EES for 7 years, Dr Craig Donaldson became the owner of EES. Dr Peter Kim joined EES in 2011 and in 2013, Peter and Craig became co-directors of EES.
Currently EES has 6 ophthalmologists, with a variety of sub-specialties, and 2 permanent orthoptists (Val and Barbara). Additionally, Neryla Jolly (orthoptist and former head of School of Orthoptics, Sydney) undertakes driving assessments for patients wanting to return on-road and needing an assessment for RMS. Epping Eye Surgery has 3 receptionists (Deb, Dawn and Carla) who ensure that our patients’ visits are a positive experience.
Today, EES is no longer just a paediatric practice but encompasses the following:
- Laser (YAG, SLT, retinal)
- OCT and fluorescein angiography
- HVF including binocular Esterman for driving assessment
- Collagen cross-linking
- Retina including treatment with Avastin, Eyelea, Lucentis
- Cornea and Refractive
- General ophthalmic including dry eye, watery eye, infection, chalazion
