About Dr Polya
Dr Daniel Polya is a vitreoretinal surgeon, cataract surgeon and medical retina specialist. He is also a visiting medical officer at the Royal North Shore Hospital.
Dr. Daniel Polya completed ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne and a fellowship in Diseases and Surgery of the Retina and Vitreous at St Michael’s Hospital, the University of Toronto, Canada, where he was chief fellow. He was appointed as clinical lecturer in the Dept of Ophthalmology at Dalhousie University.
Dan has published manuscripts in international journals and a book chapter on sutureless vitrectomy and has presented at several international ophthalmic meetings.
He completed a Master of Public Health at the University of NSW with a thesis in Patient Safety. He is a fellow of RANZCO and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Specialist Focus
He has a specialised interest in
- cataract and refractive cataract surgery,
- presbyopia treatment to reduce dependence on spectacles,
- vitreoretinal surgery for a macular hole,
- epiretinal membrane,
- diabetic retinopathy,
- retinal tears and detachment,
- ocular trauma, and
- intraocular lens exchange.
He is also a medical retina specialist and has extensive experience using retinal laser for the treating:
- macular degeneration,
- diabetic retinopathy,
- retinal vein occlusion,
- macular oedema,
- uveitis, as well as
- Medical Retina intravitreal injections, and
- Vitreoretinal surgery
